# Leaving a Book Any member can leave a shared book at any time. Leaving removes your access but doesn't affect the book or its contents. > [!quote] Clean Exits > When a project ends or responsibilities shift, leaving a book is ==simple and non-destructive==. ## How to Leave a Book 1. Open the book you want to leave 2. Go to **Members** or the book settings 3. Click **Leave Book** 4. Confirm your choice ## What Happens When You Leave - You **immediately lose access** to the book and all its contacts - The book and its contacts **remain unchanged** for other members - Any contacts you created **stay in the book** - You'll no longer see the book in your sidebar > [!note] Re-joining > If you need access again, a book Owner can send you a new invitation. See [[Inviting Members]]. ## When to Leave - The project or team you were collaborating on has ended - Your responsibilities have changed - You no longer need access to those contacts > [!tip] Owners: be careful > If you're the **only Owner** of a book, you cannot leave. Promote another member to Owner first, or delete the book if it's no longer needed. > [!success] The Key Idea > Leaving a book is a clean, non-destructive action. Your data stays safe for the rest of the team, and you can always be re-invited if needed. --- **Next:** Manage your profile and preferences in [[Account Settings]].
